In a nutshell

Wow... what a day! I'm so exhausted and tired that I really should go to bed... but what would be the fun in that!? ;-) So, I got up at 5 this morning so I could run at 5:30. Can you believe that even that early in the morning it was incredibly hot outside?! Yuck, the humidity is nasty! It was a terrible run, but I was able to then get back to the house in time to make muffins for the kids before school time. For those of you who didn't know, I was babysitting 3 of my cousins while their parents went to a wedding in NY. After the kids left, I picked up the house, did laundry, and left in time to make it to work at 10. I had looked at the transport schedule earlier that morning and nothing was on it, so I figured it would be a pretty slow day. Yeah, fat chance! ;) At 11 we went on our first transport for the day and than ran almost non-stop until 6:30. We literally stuffed down lunch. It's terrible when you're starving and yet you don't even get to enjoy the food you're eating.... oh well. It's only food, right? ;-) We had a little break at 2 where we just sat in the ambulance waiting on the call that would make us late to our 3:00 transport. (We were the only truck available at the time). No calls came in, and we left at 3 for the lake. It was beautiful down there and my partner and I were both a little jealous of our patient's house which sat overlooking the lake. :) What an awesome place to be when it's so hot out! We finally made it back around 6 and left the base around 6:30. So tomorrow, I'll have to catch up on my reports since I failed to do them today because I just wanted to go home. :) I only have 3 to write so it shouldn't be too bad. :) We actually had it pretty easy considering that the two main trucks had a class 1 trauma and an overdose all in one morning. :) And than they ran transports all day too.. with a few emergency calls mixed in. You really never know what your day will be like. :) Someday's it's boring, others... you run like crazy. :)
So, that was my day in a nutshell. ;) Ok, so seriously. Why do people say "in a nutshell"? ;-) I mean... hello! How is our day in a nutshell?! Um... so really, I probably shouldn't have used a nutshell... because I just looked it up and it said a short statement. Pretty sure I didn't just give a short statement. More like a one-sided dialogue. Oh well. Who cares, right? :)

The rest of the week consists of me working and then.... SOMETHING AMAZING HAPPENS!!!!! :) Haha, now you're all curious as to what is happening that is so very exciting. :) Well, I shall tell you then. :) There is this totally awesome, sweet, fun, beautiful girl named Kayla who is coming to visit me on Friday!!!! That is, if everything turns out well. :) I'm so excited! I don't know what we'll do, but I'm sure it'll be fabulous. :) I work Friday and Sunday night, but it's all good, because Kayla will be going to bed about the time I need to head into work. :) The only downfall is... that I work an airshow ALL Sunday. Yeah, really stinks! There's not even any cool jets coming! Lame. But, that's what happens when we grow up and get jobs. Pretty much just stinks most of the time. ;-)

Well, that's all for now... I seriously should head to bed now. :) I hope everyone had a wonderful day and that tomorrow will be even better! =)

There once was a veggie....

Guess what?!?! The forecast is predicting a sunny day tomorrow! =) Yay!!

Last night was a very good night. :) I got to bed a little after midnight and than slept till 6 something when we got our first call. And the best thing was actually being able to sleep well in those 6 hours. :) I did end up taking a nap later this afternoon, so I guess it wasn't quite enough. :) It was nice to have the day off without work, except now I feel like a veggie on the couch... that is, if veggies sat on couches. ;-) I work tomorrow evening and than I'm off for the rest of the week.
Lets see, I'm going home Wednesday morning and staying till Friday afternoon. I will then come back to Columbia and stay at my aunt and uncle's house. They are going to a wedding out of state and so I'll be watching their kids till Monday. Should be fun. :)

Today, I ran for the first time since my race over a week ago. It went better than last week when I tried to run and couldn't, but I still ended up running with pain. It was probably a dumb idea to run the 10K so close to my half marathon and when I was already hurting. So, last week I suffered with my decision and had to take off the entire week hoping to heal whatever it was I hurt. Which, we've still not figured that out. And my shin on my left leg has started flaring up and I'm sure it's because I was compensating (when running) for the pain I was having in my right leg. It really is too bad you can't go and get new legs somewhere... I could really use another pair. ;-) I mean, how cool would it be to go to a store and say, "Yes, I'd like two new legs. Preferably ones that have the muscles already built in." ;-) lol. Okay, I know that's silly, but it would be funny. =)

I do have video's and pictures that I need to put up, but as I said before, I'm being a veggie and as we all know... VEGGIES DON'T DO ANYTHING! ;-)
Hm.... maybe it is time for me to go to bed. ;-) I'm sure most of you are rather concerned about my odd sense of humor and complete weirdness... I guess I should be concerned about it too, but I'm not at the moment. :)

Rain and sleepless nights

Gracious! What's with all this rain!? We need more sunny days and blue skies. :) It is fun to play in the rain or even go running in the rain, but it's high time we have some warm, sunny days. :) Oh, speaking of warm, sunny days.... I soo want to go to the beach! I have never been, but I really want to. A small, beautiful island with just family would be pretty much perfect. :) I'll make it to the beach one of these days.

Last night, Elisabeth and I worked an 8 hour shift together and ran like crazy. I think we got maybe 2 1/2 hours of sleep. We ended up taking an LDT that took about 3 hours and after getting a little sleep we ran a couple calls non-stop. It was terrible... we would get back from a call, all tired and exhausted, have enough time to get one boot off before tones would go off again. That happened twice. We finally got a little more sleep before getting our last call at 6 this morning. We had a total of 6 calls last night. Thankfully, most of the patients didn't care to be transported to the hospital.
Elisabeth and I always manage to be crazy and fun even when we're very tired. We end up laughing at each other because we either said something crazy or we've done something really retarded that shows how little we use our brains when we're tired. ;) It did crack me up quite a bit when Elisabeth was trying to say "indigestion", but instead kept saying "indignation". :) Hm, I guess it's good we can have a sense of humor even though we're working instead of sleeping. :)
I work again tonight, so I probably should take a nap in case I'm up all night. Let's hope it'll be a quiet night. :) I am off till Tuesday evening though, so at least I can catch up on my sleep if we end up awake all night.

Well, I hope everyone else is enjoying this "lovely" rain we're having... and yes, I'm being a little sarcastic. ;-)

"WELL WELL WELL"

"Well well well, let's have a drink of it now!"

When you're at a loss as to how to start a post... just start singing the first song that comes into your head. ;-) Don't ask me why that song was the first to pop into my head.... I don't even remember what movie it's from. Terrible. The title has something to do with millionaire. I'm too lazy to look it up right now. :)

I'm working away on an 8 hour shift and so far we haven't done a whole lot of anything. We ran one call and did a no patient contact.
My partner eats very healthy and hardly ever eats sweets. So.... of course, I told him what I thought about that and said how much I love chocolate milkshakes, cookies, and anything else that's sweet. :) I told him that my body is so used to it that it would probably kill me if I totally quit eating sweets. =) As you can imagine, it was a pretty hilarious conversation. :) Oh, and he did admit to eating a brownie last week. :)
Hm... while we're on the subject of chocolate.... he did say that I could go and get a milkshake. Maybe I should do that soon. ;-)

Well, I ran my first 10K race yesterday. :) It was by myself, so that was a little sad. But I was able to keep a good pace and finished in 1:01. Not great, but considering that while I was warming up my leg was killing me, I was okay with it. :) I even had enough energy at the end to pick up the pace. That is always a good thing. :) Today was my off day and my legs have slowly recovered throughout the day. Ibuprofen has really been my lifesaver. I failed to bring any last night while I was working and really missed it... I was up a couple times every hour. It was extremely annoying since we didn't get a single call all night and I should've been able to sleep well. I'll just have to catch up on my sleep tonight. :)
Some of you may wonder why I don't quit running when I'm always hurting from it. But I've started to love running and I don't want to ever give it up. :) I'll probably go lame before that happens. =D

Well, I'm going to go and see what the rest of the crews are doing.... and maybe even tell my partner I need a milkshake. ;-) hehe

The beauty of living in the country...

I love being home and in the country. I am sitting under our maple tree enjoying the wind blowing, the birds singing, Nate playing the piano, the green trees, and blue sky. :) I know in the city it's the same, except you don't have the peacefulness. The city seems so stressful... everyone is in such a hurry to do whatever it is they're doing that day and there's always the endless noises of horns, sirens, trains, people, etc. It's never calm ... it is always stressed out. Then you come to the country and it's like you stepped into another world. It's as if the whole world has stopped and God has given us a glimpse of heaven. I'm pretty sure there won't be annoying dogs and pesky flies though. ;) Thank goodness!

I've gotten used to living in the city and there is some advantages, like being five minutes from Wal-Mart when you realize you forgot an ingredient. :) And you eventually get used to the never-ending noises that go on throughout the day. But in my eyes it doesn't even come close to competing with the country. People who have lived in the city all their life are really missing out on a lot.

It's frustrating sometimes when it seems as if you can never get away from all the noise and distractions in the city... if you want to be alone and somewhere peaceful it's hard to find. All I have to do here is walk a few steps out the back door and I'm in the woods. :) I love it!
A mountain would be a nice addition to our woods, but I guess I'll be content with the bluff we have. ;-) It's not as huge as a mountain, but it'll give you a workout if you attempt to climb it. :)
